Republic of Ibiza
My oldest niece Laia asked me to customize a pair of white canvas flatform Vans for her 17th birthday. She is a very strong and powerful young woman, always fighting injustice and trying to make this world a better place for all of us. That is why I thought of the hippies that spread all over our country in the during the 1960s, specially in the island of Ibiza. They were free spirited people just like Laia, with ideals involving freedom, amnesty and feminism, hence the choice of colors for the ornaments. These crochet doilies are meant to reminisce of the playful looks the hippies wore on the Ibiza beaches (specially those by Brigitta Bjerke). A customization project of love for my dear Laia.
