This personal project explores my obsession with death and what lies ahead of us in the afterlife. How fragile life is and how it can be over in the blink of an eye is an idea that torments me since a very young age, and the only way to cope with it is to imagine a marvelous place waiting for me whenever that may happen. These sandals represent what I imagine the cherubs in heaven will be wearing when they open the doors for me: an over the top golden asymmetrical madness made of UPCYCLED bits and pieces from my childhood: fabrics that belonged to my grandmother, buttons my mother has compiled (including CHANEL, LOLITA LEMPICKA and GENNY)... All combined together to become a crazy shoe finished with a clay irregular heel with lots of bling stuck to it.
The set up designed by myself in collaboration with Victoria Salsas and Dimitriy Levdanski also shows how I picture the decoration of Eden to be like. Rococó, excessive, kitsch... everything I love combined with postmodern humor to make me feel like at home. The stairway to ascend there is the one my parents used to access the top shelves of their dressing room and there is smoke, alcohol, jewels and all the things I adore. The cherubs hold my hald while I make my entrance to meet all my heroes, many of whom died of AIDS, and I cannot wait to hear all their stories. They have become the most precious angels ever and they are waiting for me, keeping an eye on my bad decisions while I am still down here.
